NUC Approves Taraba State University, Total Hits 313

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted official recognition to Taraba State University, marking a significant milestone as Nigeria's total number of universities rises to 313. The announcement was made by NUC Executive Secretary, Prof.

Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, during a presentation in Abuja, where he was accompanied by a delegation from Taraba State led by Governor Agbu Kefa. The new university will emphasize agricultural science, technology, and climate action, addressing critical issues related to food security and environmental challenges in Nigeria.

Ribadu noted that while the recognition is a significant step, it does not immediately authorize academic activities; a resource verification exercise must first confirm the university's compliance with necessary requirements. He urged the Taraba State government to ensure long-term financial support for the institution, emphasizing the need for sustainable funding beyond a single administration.

The governor expressed commitment to regulatory compliance and plans to simplify the university's name for easier identification.
