Rivers Police Arrest 13 Suspects in Journalist Assault Case

The Rivers State Police Command arrested 13 suspects allegedly involved in the assault of broadcast journalist Mr. Allwel En, who works for Classic FM, Beat FM, and Naija FM.

The attack occurred approximately three weeks ago in Port Harcourt, raising concerns about the safety of journalists in the region. Following a PUNCH report published on April 30, which detailed the increasing criminal activities and assaults on journalists, the police took immediate action.

CP Olugenga Adewol Adepoju directed an investigation, which included inviting journalists to provide firsthand accounts. The police mobilized swiftly to the scene, leading to the arrest of the suspects believed to be involved in various criminal activities, including phone theft and harassment.

The police chief advised journalists to avoid conducting investigations alone in high-risk areas and encouraged public collaboration with security agencies to enhance safety and maintain law and order in Rivers State.
