NUJ Raises Alarm Over Rising Road Accidents in Abia

The Abia State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has raised alarms regarding the rising incidence of road accidents on the Umuahia-Aba highway within the state. In a communiqué released following their monthly congress, the NUJ urged the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to intensify their efforts in road safety management.

They called for an upgrade in the agency's response to road advisories and the control of overspeeding, which poses significant dangers to motorists. The communiqué was signed by Abia NUJ Chairman Chidi Asony and Secretary Ikechukwu Onuegbu.

Additionally, the NUJ appealed to drivers to strictly follow road safety rules and regulations. The organization also highlighted the need for the state government and security agencies to address rising crime rates in Umuahia and Aba, urging residents to report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

The NUJ reiterated its commitment to functioning as a watchdog in society.
