NUJ FCT Calls for Enhanced Security Measures in Schools

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council convened a congress on June 6, 2026, in Abuja, attended by 500 members. The congress called on security agencies to intensify their efforts in combating insecurity across the country and to prioritize the protection of lives and properties, particularly in educational institutions.

The resolution emphasized the importance of journalists accurately reporting security issues to maintain public interest and hold institutions accountable. The congress urged security agencies to provide information that reflects the realities on the ground to inspire public confidence.

It also called for the full implementation of the Safe School Initiative to ensure that programs benefit schools nationwide. Additionally, the congress appealed to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to address water supply challenges affecting residents and urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to strengthen engagement with journalists to foster better relationships regarding security reporting.
