NUJ FCT Council Supports Community Policing Against Robberies

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, led by Comrade Grace Ik, has pledged to provide media support for community policing initiatives and called for a holistic response to the increasing threat of "one-chance" robberies in Abuja. During a goodwill message at the Federal Capital Territory Command headquarters, Ik emphasized the importance of a comprehensive strategy that combines enhanced patrols, intelligence gathering, and improved public transport safety measures.

She noted that the "one-chance" robbery incidents disproportionately affect women and young commuters, leading to feelings of helplessness and distrust in reporting crimes. The NUJ FCT Council aims to partner with the police to amplify verified information and encourage victims to report crimes, thereby building trust and enhancing public safety.

Ik commended the leadership of the FCT Command for its modern efforts and pledged that the NUJ would continue to deliver balanced accounts of police activities while fostering regular dialogue between journalists and law enforcement to improve crime response coordination.
