NEMA Reports 232 Dead and Displaced in September Flooding Crisis

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) released data revealing that at least 232 people died and were displaced across Nigeria due to flooding in September 2025. The figures from NEMA's flood dashboard also indicated 681 injuries, 115 missing persons, and significant damage to houses and farmland.

Niger, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Borno, Gombe, and Jigawa were among the states with recorded fatalities, with Niger State alone reporting 163 deaths. Urgent needs for victims include food, shelter, healthcare, water, sanitation, and livelihood support.

The agency highlighted challenges such as resource shortages, inaccessibility to flooded areas, security concerns, and community resistance in delivering relief efforts.
