NUP Urges Tinubu for Immediate Release of Pension Palliatives

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has formally appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the immediate release of a total of N75,000 in palliative payments, which were approved three years ago following the removal of the fuel subsidy. The NUP, represented by General Secretary Comrade Godwin Amadin, stated that no pensioner has received the approved payments since the announcement in October 2023.

The union expressed that the delay has exacerbated the financial difficulties faced by pensioners, many of whom have served the country for over 35 years. The NUP highlighted that the approved palliative was intended to alleviate the impact of rising costs of living, including food and medication.

They urged the President to instruct the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO) to initiate payments. The union noted that civil servants had received similar payments almost three years ago, reinforcing their demand for action.

They also commended the President for regular pension payments and recent funding for pension harmonization.
