Tinubu Claims Fuel Subsidy Removal Benefits Nigerians

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu addressed the newly elected leadership of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) at the State House in Abuja, asserting that the removal of fuel subsidies, which he announced upon his inauguration on May 29, 2023, is advantageous for ordinary Nigerians. He promised to publish details on how the savings from the subsidy withdrawal are being utilized, citing regular salary payments and funding for major road projects, including the Lagos-Ibadan Road and Abuja-Kaduna highway, as benefits of the policy.

Tinubu expressed optimism about reviving the nation's four moribund refineries, emphasizing the need for them to be commercially viable. He acknowledged the responsibility of addressing the issues inherited from previous administrations.

Additionally, he urged NUPENG leadership to ensure that benefits from compressed natural gas (CNG) are passed on to commuters. NUPENG President Akanni Oladiti raised concerns about the casualization of workers in the oil industry.
