NUPRC Revokes Oritsemeyin Rig License Over Safety Breach

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) revoked the license of Oritsemeyin Rig operator, Selective Marine Services Limited (SMSL), due to safety breaches. The decision, communicated on September 11, followed operational lapses leading to a wellbore kick that posed risks to workers and the environment.

Despite prior notifications and reminders, SMSL failed to address the safety issues, resulting in the revocation of its license under the Petroleum Act. The incident highlighted the importance of adhering to safety protocols in the oil and gas sector to prevent catastrophic blowouts.
