NUPRC Urges Quick Completion of New Headquarters

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has called for the expedited completion of its headquarters, known as The Barrel, to improve the Commission's efficiency and Nigeria's investment appeal. The 10-storey building, designed to accommodate 900 to 1,000 people, is located in the Central Business District of Abuja and was initiated in 2020 but remains unfinished.

During an inspection, NUPRC Board Chairman Senator Magnus Abe expressed concern over the current arrangement where oil and gas companies must visit multiple locations to engage with the regulator, which he described as detrimental to Nigeria's investment image. He stated that the new headquarters would centralize operations and serve as a symbol of national pride.

Senator Abe commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and vision for the oil and gas industry, noting a resurgence of investments creating jobs and increasing revenues. NUPRC Chief Executive Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan urged the contractor, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, to complete the project by the first quarter of 2027.
