Dangote Refinery Lifts Petrol Price to ₦1,200 Per Litre
Dangote Petroleum Refinery increased petrol prices by ₦15 per litre effective August 26, 2026, marking another hike in weeks despite falling crude costs.
On August 26, 2026, Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE implemented a gantry price adjustment for Premium Motor Spirit, lifting the per-litre cost from ₦1,185 to ₦1,200. Customers received notification of this change via the refinery's Group Commercial Operations on Tuesday.
The revision touched both gantry and coastal delivery pricing, with coastal rates shifting upward from ₦1,562,265 to ₦1,582,380 per metric tonne. This ₦15 per-litre adjustment followed an earlier price movement at the facility.
According to industry sources, the increase took place at a time when crude prices on the global market were moving downward—a contradiction mirrored in Nigeria's downstream fuel sector's recent behaviour. Dangote's move was accompanied by adjustments from competing suppliers.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited pushed retail prices to ₦1,270 per litre (up ₦20 from ₦1,250), while MRS raised pump prices by ₦20, landing at ₦1,230 per litre. This widened the spread of prices across Nigeria's petrol retail landscape.
These successive shifts at Dangote underscore broader dynamics of market forces and depot cost changes within Nigeria's petrol supply infrastructure. Since it began supplying the domestic market, the refinery has wielded considerable influence over fuel retail pricing decisions nationwide.
The August 26 adjustment represents another chapter in months of fluctuating market conditions affecting consumer costs.
