NUPRC to Implement Paperless System in 60 Days

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), under the leadership of Mr. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, has announced a commitment to go paperless within 60 days.

This initiative aims to enhance transparency and ensure that the commission's interactions with the public are fully digitized. During a visit from the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), Hon.

Musa Sarkin Adar, Eyesan emphasized that the transition to a digital system would eliminate paper trails, allowing for quicker and more efficient communication. He noted that digitization often leads to better enforcement of royalty payments, which have historically faced high default rates prior to 2025 when the commission's compliance system went live.

Eyesan also expressed a desire to deepen the relationship with NEITI to foster transparency, especially in light of the upcoming 2025 licensing round. Adar urged the NUPRC to actively participate in the 2026 EITI flagship conference to improve data sharing and operational collaboration.
