NUPRC Reports Digitization Boosts Royalty Payments

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), led by Mr. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, announced that digitization has markedly improved royalty payments, with a significant reduction in default rates since the system went live in 2025.

During a visit from Hon. Musa Sarkin Adar, the executive secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), Eyesan emphasized the importance of enhancing transparency and compliance within the commission.

He stated that the NUPRC is committed to a 60-day program to digitize interactions, aiming for a fully electronic system that eliminates paper trails and ensures efficient tracking of operations. Hon.

Adar highlighted the need for NUPRC to collaborate with NEITI to foster transparency, especially in light of the upcoming 2025 licensing round. He urged the commission to actively participate in the 2026 EITI flagship conference to gain better insights into EITI standards and improve data sharing, which would enhance operational effectiveness.
