Nigeria Union of Teachers Threatens Nationwide Strike Over School Attacks

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has issued a strong warning of a potential nationwide strike in response to the escalating targeted attacks on schools across Nigeria, particularly in Kebbi and Niger states. The union expressed deep concern over the recent incidents, including the killing of a vice principal, a security guard, and the abduction of 25 female students from a government girls' school in Kebbi.

NUT highlighted the long history of mass kidnappings in the country, emphasizing the vulnerability of schools as soft targets for criminals. The union criticized the slow implementation of safe school measures and called for improved security to safeguard the education sector.

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State had previously promised to end banditry within two months but has faced challenges in controlling security issues.
