Nwifuru Denies Rift with Umahi Over Consensus Candidate

Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the current governor of Ebonyi State, has publicly refuted claims of a political conflict with former governor David Umahi concerning the selection of a consensus candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial elections. Nwifuru's comments were made during a press briefing on Saturday in Abakaliki, where he stated that there is no rift between him and Umahi, who is currently serving as a minister.

He emphasized that both leaders are working collaboratively for the progress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. Nwifuru's remarks came in response to speculation fueled by Umahi's recent statement regarding consultations with national party leader Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who directed that primaries be held instead of adopting a consensus candidate.

Nwifuru reassured party members that any outstanding issues regarding the consensus candidacy would be resolved amicably, urging unity among aspirants and stakeholders in the party as they prepare for the upcoming elections.
