Governor Nwifuru Reveals Details of Monarch's Kidnap

Governor Franci Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State provided details regarding the kidnapping and subsequent murder of traditional ruler Francis Igwe. The incident occurred near a church when hoodlums, disguised as tricycle and motorcycle riders, abducted the monarch.

Nwifuru received a distress call early on Sunday morning from Kelechi Igwe, the deceased's son, prompting immediate police involvement and a search operation. The investigation revealed that the kidnappers were located in a remote area of Izzi Local Government.

Despite a ransom demand of 200 million naira, negotiations faltered as the abductors refused to allow the victim to speak with his family. The monarch, who was reportedly ill, sustained fatal injuries during captivity.

The suspects later confessed to the crime, revealing a motive linked to land disputes. The governor emphasized the state's commitment to justice, while Kelechi Igwe expressed gratitude for the swift response to the abduction.
