Wike-Backed PDP Faction Elects New Executives Ahead of Convention

A faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) supported by Nyesom Wike has successfully elected new state executives in several states, including Bayelsa, Ekiti, and Oyo, in preparation for the national convention set for March 28 in Abuja. The elections followed a court ruling that invalidated a previous convention held on November 15-16 in Ibadan, which produced Tanimu Turaki as the national chairman.

In Bayelsa State, Alabh Turnah emerged as the state chairman during a congress held at the newly inaugurated PDP secretariat in Yenagoa, monitored by an electoral panel led by Austin Sor. In Ekiti State, Lanre Omolas was elected chairman, pledging to rebuild the party's electoral strength.

Oyo State saw Abdulrahman Akinoso elected as chairman amid tight security. The faction warned against the dissolution of state executives, which they deemed illegal and detrimental to ongoing reconciliation efforts within the party.
