NYSA Warns Alcohol Ban May Cause Economic Instability

The Nigerian Youth Solidarity Assembly (NYSA) has issued a warning that the enforcement of a ban on sachet alcohol could result in significant economic and social instability. During a press conference in Abuja, NYSA's Secretary General, Comrade Okwut Hilari Akor, expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) under the leadership of Director General Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye.

The assembly described the enforcement of the ban as grossly incompetent and an abuse of office, arguing that it contradicts existing government directives and undermines the country's economic recovery efforts. NYSA claims that the agency's actions violate national alcohol policy and disregard previous directives to suspend enforcement pending consultations.

They warned that continued enforcement could lead to job losses, threaten the survival of indigenous beverage producers, and encourage the proliferation of illicit alcohol products. The assembly urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to dismiss Adeyeye to restore confidence in regulatory institutions.
