Tinubu Urged to Dismiss NAFDAC Boss Over Alcohol Ban

An independent action group has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately dismiss Prof. Mojisola Christianah Adeyey, the Director General of NAFDAC, accusing her of incompetence and abuse of public office regarding the enforcement of a ban on sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottle alcoholic beverages.

During a press conference on Sunday, the group, represented by coordinator Ndubuisi Nwogu, alleged that NAFDAC's decision to enforce these restrictions is unlawful and contradicts existing government directives. They argue that this enforcement violates national alcohol policy approved by the Federal Ministry of Health and disregards presidential directives.

The group warned that the ban could lead to job losses and disrupt business activities across the alcohol beverage value chain, negatively affecting local manufacturers and undermining economic growth efforts. They maintain that sachet alcohol products cater to low-income adults and should not be prohibited without compelling evidence.

The group insists that the policy should be guided by empirical evidence rather than emotional claims and warns that a complete ban could lead to the proliferation of illicit alcohol products.
