NYSC Member Beaten to Death by Vigilantes in Benue

A tragic incident occurred late Sunday night, around 11 PM to 12 AM, when a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member was beaten to death in the Mbajor settlement near the Buruku Local Government Area (LGA) secretariat in Benue State. The deceased, identified as Tongov from Katsina-Ala LGA, was apprehended by vigilante members during a night patrol on suspicion of being a motorcycle thief.

Despite presenting his NYSC identification card, he was allegedly attacked by the group, who claimed he was not truthful. Raymond Aondoakura, the Buruku LGA chairman, confirmed the incident, stating that the victim was beaten into a coma and later died in the hospital.

Aondoakura announced that the police have been involved, leading to arrests and the prosecution of those responsible. He also declared an immediate suspension of the vigilante group's activities pending the introduction of proper regulations for their operations in the area.
