NYSC Official Charged Over Corps Member's Death

Abass Olalekan Mondai, an official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was arraigned in an Ogun State Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, on two counts: conspiracy and unlawful procurement of an abortion related to the death of corps member Victoria Ariyo. Ariyo reportedly died due to complications from an abortion procedure last Tuesday.

The charges allege that Mondai had a romantic relationship with Ariyo, which led to her pregnancy and subsequent abortion. The Ogun State Police Command launched an investigation into her death, which was reported to have occurred under suspicious circumstances.

Mondai pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his counsel, Elizabeth Adelabu, filed for bail, which was granted at N500,000 with two sureties. The case has been adjourned until April 14, 2026, for further hearing.

Ariyo's remains were reportedly buried at Kobap Cemetery, Sagamu Road, Abeokuta.
