Ogun State Prosecutes NYSC Official Over Corps Member's Death

Ogun State has assumed the prosecution of Olalekan Abba, an official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who has been charged with conspiracy and attempting to procure an abortion that allegedly led to the death of corps member Victoria Olapeju Ariyo. The case has been adjourned to April 14, 2026, and Abba has been granted bail.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbad, emphasized that the bail was granted based solely on the nature of the charges, which are bailable. He clarified that the decision to grant bail does not reflect the strength of the evidence against Abba.

The charges stem from allegations of a relationship between Abba and Ariyo, who was reportedly pregnant at the time of her death. Ogungbad urged the public and media to refrain from speculation that could undermine the judicial process, stressing that the case remains at a preliminary stage.
