NYSC Official Olalekan Detained for 60 Days Over Death

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) official named Olalekan has been ordered to spend an additional 60 days in detention following the death of a female corps member. The corps member reportedly had a romantic relationship with Olalekan and became pregnant, leading to complications during an attempted abortion.

Olalekan, a local government inspector at Abeokuta South LGA, was initially charged with conspiracy and attempted procurement of an abortion. He was arraigned in court last week, where he was granted bail of N500,000 under certain conditions.

However, the case took a turn when Olalekan was re-arraigned with amended charges that included murder. Police counsel Solomon Babalola urged the court to remand Olalekan for 60 days at the Oba Correct Centre pending legal advice from the state director of public prosecution.

The magistrate, O.T. Odubanjo, granted the application, and the case has been adjourned to June 1st for further proceedings.
