NYSC Official Charged in Corps Member's Death Case

Olalekan, an official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was arraigned on two counts of conspiracy and unlawful attempt to procure abortion drugs following the death of Victoria Ariyo, a female corps member serving in Abeokuta South Local Government Area. Ariyo reportedly died last Tuesday due to complications from pregnancy.

Allegations suggest that Olalekan was involved in a romantic relationship with Ariyo, which led to her pregnancy and subsequent death during an attempted termination. During the arraignment on Monday, Olalekan pleaded not guilty to the charges presented by the prosecutor, Insp.

Lawrenc Olu Balogun. The prosecutor claimed that Olalekan conspired with others to commit a felony related to abortion, which contravenes the Criminal Code Law of Ogun State.

Olalekan's counsel, Mr. Bunmi Adelabu, applied for bail, which was granted at N500,000 with two sureties.

The case was adjourned until April 14 for further hearing.
