NYSC Reforms: New Adire Uniforms to Replace Khaki

The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed significant reforms to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), established in 1973, which will see the replacement of the traditional khaki uniform with adire fabric. Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, disclosed this during a briefing on Thursday, stating that the initiative aims to promote local products and support the Nigerian economy.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved these comprehensive reforms, which also include a review of deployment policies to address security concerns in certain areas. Corps members will now undergo relevant training during orientation camps, and their deployment will consider their academic qualifications and areas of study.

The reforms also emphasize entrepreneurship, vocational skills, and civic responsibility, with a new six-week orientation course. President Bola Tinubu supports these changes, which aim to better prepare young Nigerians for practical skills and contribute to national development.
