OAU Students Protest Transportation Issues with Boycott

Students at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ife, Osun State, are experiencing significant transportation challenges, resulting in long queues and delays in movement across campus. This situation follows the introduction of compressed natural gas (CNG) buses, which were donated to improve mobility.

However, students have reported that the implementation has created new challenges, particularly in restricting intra-campus transport. A video circulating online shows students waiting in long lines for transport, especially during peak hours.

In response to these issues, the OAU Student Union, led by President Adelani David and Secretary General Habeeb Ok, organized a 72-hour lecture boycott from April 14 to April 16, 2026, demanding improvements in the transportation system. Despite the intervention from First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, students have criticized the rollout of the new transport system, citing insufficient buses and long wait times.

The union has called for the reinstatement of the previous transport system until a more effective solution is implemented.
