Obasanjo's Political Role Sparks Controversy Ahead of 2027

A political controversy has emerged regarding former President Olusegun Obasanjo's involvement in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. The Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum accused Obasanjo of secretly working to support President Bola Tinubu's re-election.

In contrast, Dr. Akin Osuntokun, Obasanjo’s former Political Adviser, claimed that Obasanjo is the architect behind the alliance of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso under the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

The Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum, led by President Akin Malaolu, alleged that Obasanjo's recent political actions are aimed at weakening the opposition rather than strengthening it. They pointed to a letter Obasanjo wrote to Segun Osoba, which criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as part of a broader strategy to destabilize opposition parties.

The forum contended that Obasanjo's public support for Obi and Kwankwaso is a façade to mask his support for Tinubu's second-term ambitions, claiming he facilitated political realignments that led to Obi and Kwankwaso's candidacy.
