Okonkwo Warns Divided Opposition Could Aid Tinubu in 2027

On September 4, Kenneth Okonkwo, a former chieftain of the Labour Party and spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign, warned that a fragmented opposition could lead to President Bola Tinubu's re-election in 2027. In an interview with Ibeju Upgrade Media, Okonkwo stated that voting for Peter Obi without a broader alliance would likely result in Tinubu defeating him decisively.

He argued that the only viable path for the opposition to win is to unite behind a single candidate who can attract diverse political and regional support. Okonkwo referenced the 2023 election results, where Tinubu received 8,794,726 votes, while Atiku and Obi collectively garnered over 13 million votes, highlighting that the opposition's votes were split across multiple candidates.

He expressed concern that the current political landscape, with Obi running under the Nigeria Democratic Congress and Atiku under the African Democratic Congress, could repeat past mistakes and benefit Tinubu.
