Peter Obi Advocates for Direct Voter Engagement Ahead of 2027

Following the Independent National Electoral Commission's lifting of the campaign ban for the 2027 general elections, Peter Obi, the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, held a world press conference in his home in Onitsha, Anambra State. Obi, who placed third in the 2023 presidential election while representing the Labour Party, expressed his belief that he was unfairly treated in the previous election.

He stated that his popularity has doubled and claimed he could defeat current president Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress if elections were held today. Obi cautioned against ethnic and religious politics, urging candidates to engage directly with the electorate and present their manifestos.

He highlighted Nigeria's significant challenges, including poverty affecting over 140 million Nigerians and the need for food assistance for 35 million people by 2026. Obi's remarks reflect his commitment to addressing these issues as he prepares for the upcoming election.
