Peter Obi's Strategy for Winning Northern Votes in 2027

Peter Obi, the presidential flag-bearer for the New Democratic Congress (NDC), is confronted with the challenge of securing votes from northern Nigeria in the upcoming 2027 elections. Public affairs analyst Donald Okwuosa has proposed a strategic roadmap for Obi, emphasizing the need to engage the North as three distinct regions: North-West, North-East, and North-Central.

Okwuosa highlighted security as a critical concern, urging Obi to present a credible plan that includes local vigilante groups and job creation to combat banditry and farmer-herder clashes. He also recommended concrete economic policies focusing on agriculture, irrigation, and small business support, specifically reviving Kano's textile industry.

Furthermore, Okwuosa suggested that Obi should consider a northern running mate and build party structures down to the ward level in all 19 northern states. He advised that campaigns should be conducted in Hausa and framed around national issues, while also countering perceptions that Obi aims to break up Nigeria by demonstrating policy depth on issues important to northern voters.
