Peter Obi Questions Tinubu's Absence at UNGA

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has raised concerns regarding the whereabouts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who left Abuja on August 30 for a three-week annual leave in London. The presidency announced that Tinubu would return to Nigeria at the weekend, but Obi questioned his absence during the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Obi noted that he watched the "eloquent and remarkable address" by Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama and highlighted that Nigeria, as Africa's most populous nation, has not had its president present at the last three UNGAs. He stated, “Where is he, particularly at a time when the country faces significant challenges both domestically and internationally?” Although Vice President Kashim Shettima attended the UNGA, Obi emphasized the importance of Nigeria's leadership on the global stage and expressed hope for a "New Nigeria.".
