Obidient Movement Questions Tinubu's UNGA Absence

The Obidient Movement has expressed concern over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, questioning his justification that he is attending to domestic priorities. In a statement from its Media and Communications Directorate, the group demanded an explanation for Tinubu's choice not to represent Nigeria at the UNGA, especially after earlier indications of his attendance.

The Presidency stated that Tinubu is on annual leave and focusing on domestic issues such as the economy and security. However, the Obidient Movement highlighted the contradiction of Tinubu attending a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace while missing the UNGA, where critical global issues relevant to Nigeria are discussed.

They noted that Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Nigeria at the UNGA in 2024 and 2025, urging the Presidency to clarify Tinubu's absence for the third consecutive year and linking it to ongoing public controversies regarding his past in the United States.
