Peter Obi Questions Tinubu's Absence Amid Global Challenges

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, raised concerns regarding President Bola Tinubu's prolonged absence from Nigeria and international engagements. In a statement released on his official X handle by his spokesperson, Idris Zekeri Jnr, Obi noted that Tinubu left for a three-week working vacation in Europe on August 30, 2026.

As the expected return date passed, opposition leaders and civil society groups expressed worries about the lack of executive presence in Abuja and at high-level international forums. Obi highlighted the contrast between Nigeria's absence and Ghana's active diplomatic representation, specifically referencing Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama's address at the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

He questioned the absence of Nigeria's President, especially during a time of significant economic and security challenges, despite Vice President Kashim Shettima leading the Nigerian delegation. Obi emphasized that a deputy's presence does not substitute for the President's leadership.
