Obi Critiques N10bn Solar Plan Amid Nigeria's Power Crisis

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has raised concerns regarding the Nigerian government's N10 billion solar energy plan for Aso Rock, especially in light of the ongoing power crisis affecting millions of Nigerians. Obi argues that this initiative sends a negative signal at a time when many citizens are struggling with unreliable electricity.

The proposed solar infrastructure is allocated approximately N10 billion in the 2025 budget, with discussions about upgrading the power supply to be independent of the national grid. This has sparked controversy, as the national grid has been experiencing regular malfunctions, limiting the generation capacity of renewable energy sources.

Obi, who had previously promised to provide consistent power within four years during his campaign, points out that the current government has seen the grid fail repeatedly, despite installed capacity exceeding 13,000 megawatts. He insists that leadership must reflect the realities faced by residents and that visible, verifiable progress in addressing the electricity infrastructure is essential to rebuild public trust.
