Obidient Movement Demands Probe into Attack on Leaders

The Obidient Movement has urged the new Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, to investigate a coordinated attack on Peter Obi and John Odigi Oyegun, the leader of the African Democratic Congress, which occurred in Benin City, Edo State. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the movement characterized the incident as a premeditated two-pronged assassination attempt, where armed assailants invaded the African Democratic Congress secretariat on Ogbelaka Street shortly after a rally.

The group condemned the violent attack and called for an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation into the assassination attempt, demanding federal intervention to ensure that the perpetrators and sponsors are identified, arrested, and prosecuted. The Obidient Movement also urged the public to condemn the attack, linking it to a broader pattern of intimidation against opposition leaders nationwide.

They criticized the state’s failure to guarantee the safety of political figures, highlighting the dangerous rhetoric and threats that have emerged in the political landscape.
