Oborevwori Gifts Nigeria’s World Debate Champions N100m

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State in Nigeria announced a reward of N100 million for the five-member team that represented Nigeria and emerged as champions at the 2025 World Basic Schools Debate Championship in Doha, Qatar. The winning students, who attend public schools in Delta State, received N1 million each, while their handler, a young national ambassador, received N5 million.

Governor Oborevwori praised the team's victory as a proud moment for Delta State and emphasized the administration's commitment to educational excellence. The students, parents, and officials were honored at the Government House in Asaba, where the Governor highlighted the importance of hard work, discipline, and focus for personal success.

The team spoke about overcoming doubts and anxiety to excel in the competition, which included topics like climate change and youth empowerment. The Governor's unwavering commitment to the education sector was acknowledged by the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Samuel Mariere, who highlighted the importance of youth.
