Ochei Launches Youth-Centric Tennis Reforms in Nigeria

Victor Ochei, the President of the Nigerian Tennis Federation (NTF), has unveiled a youth-driven reform agenda designed to enhance tennis participation and strengthen the sport's development structure across Nigeria. Speaking on Arise TV's global sports program, Ochei emphasized grassroots engagement as a priority for his new board.

A significant reform includes the introduction of a nationwide player registration system, which will assign a unique identification number to every registered tennis player, creating a unified database to improve organization and access to competitions. This system aims to eliminate fragmentation within the sport and facilitate the identification and support of emerging talent across various regions.

Ochei highlighted his long-standing involvement in sports development, particularly during his time in public office in Delta State, and reiterated the importance of investing in youth programs. He also announced plans for a comprehensive 10-year strategic growth plan for tennis in Nigeria, covering 2026 to 2036, focusing on talent development across multiple age brackets from 4 to 18 years, with an emphasis on integrating tennis into primary and secondary school systems nationwide.
