Officers Attacked, Two In Critical Condition As Inmates Break Jail In Keffi Medium Custodial Centre

A jailbreak at the Keffi Medium Custodial Centre in Nasarawa State on August 12 resulted in the escape of 16 inmates, leaving five officers injured and two in critical condition. The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) confirmed the incident, with seven of the escaped inmates already recaptured.

Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, visited the facility and ordered an investigation into the breach, warning that staff found complicit would face consequences. Nwakuche also directed a manhunt for the remaining fugitives and urged collaboration with security agencies.

The NCoS reassured the public of its commitment to safety and protection of custodial facilities nationwide, advising vigilance and prompt reporting of any suspicious activity related to the escapees.
