FG Concedes Akanu Ibiam Airport to Aero Alliance Limited

The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed a concession agreement for the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu with Aero Alliance Limited, marking a significant milestone in the modernization of airport infrastructure and the enhancement of operational efficiency. The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced this development on Thursday in Abuja, describing the concession as a historic breakthrough after two decades of unsuccessful attempts.

The agreement aims to attract private sector investment into Nigeria's aviation sector, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's agenda to renew hope in the industry. Keyamo noted that investor interest had previously focused on airports in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano, with Enugu and Port Harcourt being overlooked.

The Enugu concession is expected to boost investor confidence, with plans already in place for three additional airport concessions across the country. Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State was commended for his visionary leadership in attracting this investment, and a memorandum of understanding has been signed to facilitate direct flights between Enugu and Guangzhou, China.
