Akwa Ibom, Enugu Investments to Boost Nigeria's Aviation

Experts in the aviation industry assert that investments by Akwa Ibom and Enugu states in state-owned airport hubs will expand the air travel market and improve service to underserved destinations. Akwa Ibom has modernized its airport, now known as Victor Attah International Airport Uyo, and established Ibom Air, which operates regional services.

Enugu State has launched Enugu Air, which recently obtained an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) after partnering with Xejet. Additionally, the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu is being developed and has been concessioned to Aero Alliance.

These developments are expected to create hundreds of jobs and train technical personnel in the aviation sector. Travel expert Ambassador Ikechi Uko noted that private investors often focus on profitable routes, leaving gaps in the market that state-owned carriers can exploit, similar to the operations of the defunct Nigeria Airways Limited, which connected all parts of the country.
