Ogun AG Clarifies Legal Status of Corps Member's Death

The Ogun State Attorney General, Mr. Sina Ogungbad, issued a statement clarifying the legal proceedings surrounding the death of corps member Victoria Ariyo, who reportedly died due to complications from an abortion.

Abass Olalekan, an inspector with the Abeokuta South Local Government, has been charged with conspiracy and attempting to procure an unlawful abortion. He was arraigned on Monday at Magistrate Court 1 in Isabo, Abeokuta, where he was granted bail of N500,000 with two sureties, one of whom must be a blood relative and employed.

Ogungbad emphasized that the bail decision was misinterpreted by the public and that it was based solely on the nature of the charges, which do not reflect the strength of the evidence. The Attorney General confirmed that the case file had been received from the state police command and that the investigation into Olalekan's relationship with the deceased, who was reportedly pregnant at the time of her death, is ongoing.

He urged the public and media to refrain from speculation that could undermine the judicial process.
