Amosun Denies Pressuring Aspirants in 2027 Race

Ibikunle Amosun, the former governor of Ogun State, publicly denied allegations that he asked senatorial aspirants to withdraw from the 2027 Ogun Central senatorial race. His denial followed reports of a stakeholders' meeting held in Abeokuta on Thursday, where the possibility of adopting a consensus candidate was discussed.

Reports suggested that Amosun had allegedly listed three aspirants who were agreeable to stepping down, which triggered backlash from the aspirants. In a statement issued by his media office on Sunday, Amosun described the reports as a misrepresentation of the meeting's proceedings.

He emphasized that the meeting, convened by former governor Olusegun Osoba, was not aimed at pressuring anyone to withdraw, as such actions would be undemocratic. Amosun reiterated that he would not participate in any party primary elections with predetermined outcomes and urged the media to verify facts before publishing reports regarding political meetings.
