Yayi Faces Court Challenge Over State of Origin Claims

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, known as Yayi, is being sued in the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations concerning the state of origin he declared in past electoral documents submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission. The lawsuit was initiated by Abayomi Hunye, a former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, amid ongoing disputes regarding the party's 2027 governorship ticket.

Hunye's legal team seeks to review Adeola's previous nomination forms to ascertain what state of origin he declared when contesting elections in Lagos State. Olamide Victor, Hunye's lead counsel, clarified that the case focuses on statutory integrity rather than questioning Adeola's ties to Yewa in Ogun State.

The legal team plans to present certified true copies from INEC records as evidence. Adeola was declared the APC candidate for the 2027 Ogun governorship election after scoring 304,055 votes in the May 2026 primary, while Hunye received zero votes.

The APC has reaffirmed Adeola's candidacy and stated that Hunye has been suspended from the party.
