Ondo State Bans Okada, Tricycles Near Government House

The Ondo State Government has implemented a ban on the operation and movement of commercial motorcycles, known as Okada, and tricycles around the Government House axis in Alagbaka, Akure. This restriction, effective immediately, aims to enhance traffic flow and movement within the state capital.

Hon. Muyiwa Ogunyemi, the Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Transportation, announced these measures during a media chat at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Akure. Okada riders are permitted to operate only towards the Police Officers’ Mess, with the route through First Bank, Alagbaka, terminating around the Teaching Service Commission area.

Ogunyemi emphasized that the government would enforce traffic regulations strictly and urged all road users to comply. He also criticized the misuse of designated bus stops and road spaces for commercial activities.

Ogunyemi warned that violations of traffic lights would lead to arrests and prosecutions, reinforcing the need for discipline in road usage amid ongoing infrastructure improvements in Akure.
