Ogun Customs Seizes Guns, Drugs Worth N721m in January Crackdown

In January 2026, the Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigerian Customs Service intercepted contraband worth N721 million, which included items like smuggled rice, cannabis sativa parcels, firearms, ammunition, and other illegal goods. The Area Comptroller, Olukayode Afeni, disclosed this during a press conference at the command headquarters in Idiroko. The command's collaboration with government agencies, border communities, traditional institutions, and sister agencies has been instrumental in achieving these interceptions. The total duty paid value (DPV) of the seized items was N721,453,612. The command emphasized its commitment to combating smuggling, protecting the nation's borders, and preventing antiquities theft.

The seizures also included traditional carvings, which will be assessed by experts for further action. Notably, the command intercepted parcels of cannabis sativa, explosives, live ammunition, and firearms, underscoring the importance of vigilance in curbing illegal activities. The NDLEA and other agencies were involved in intercepting these illicit substances. The command's efforts in revenue collection, auction sales, and combating drug trafficking have been significant in enhancing security in the region.
