Ogun Fish Farmers Demand Action Against Rising Insecurity

Fish farmers in Ogun State have expressed grave concerns over escalating insecurity, particularly in Ijebu land, following the kidnapping of Adam Omamegb and five women from Alayo Fish Farm. The incident, which involved a ransom demand of N70 million, has left the farming community in fear.

Eko Nichola, spokesperson for the Ijebu Land Fish Farmers Association, emphasized that this is not an isolated case, citing previous incidents, including a murder and other kidnappings over the past three years. The Ogun State Police Command, led by Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo, has been criticized for its inaction.

Farmers are calling for immediate government intervention, including increased police presence and intelligence gathering to combat the rampant insecurity. They also demand compensation for victims and a thorough investigation into recent abductions.

Chairman Okol Lazarus urged the government to take decisive action to restore safety and protect livelihoods in the agricultural sector.
