Ogun-Osun River Basin Develops 400 Solar Boreholes

The Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, under the leadership of Managing Director Deji Ashiru, has achieved notable milestones in agricultural development and renewable energy over the past two years. The agency installed over 400 solar-powered boreholes across various communities, providing access to clean potable water for thousands of residents.

Additionally, 16 agricultural tractors were deployed to support mechanized farming, with plans to procure 60 more to enhance food production. The agency has cultivated 5,000 hectares of farmland and constructed 100 modern greenhouses to promote climate-smart agriculture.

Furthermore, 12 irrigation dams are being developed, with four completed and eight ongoing, alongside the installation of a sprinkler irrigation system covering 50 hectares. The authority has also focused on youth and women empowerment, benefiting 1,000 individuals through vocational training and the distribution of industrial tools.

The construction of a 250 megawatt hydropower project at the Iker Gorg Dam is also underway, representing a significant advancement in the region's energy landscape.
