Ogun State Approves Bills to Combat Cultism and Crime

The Ogun State Executive Council has approved four executive bills aimed at enhancing the state’s criminal justice system and addressing security issues, including cultism, ritual killings, and violent crimes. Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), announced this on Friday in Abeokuta, stating that the bills will be forwarded to the Ogun State House of Assembly for legislative consideration.

The four bills include the Group Liability for Offences of Violence, Extortion and Secret Societies Bill, the Victims’ Rights Bill, the Human Sacrifice Prevention and Prohibition Bill, and the Missing Persons Bill. The GLOVES Bill seeks to hold members of unlawful organizations jointly liable for crimes committed by any member.

The Victims’ Rights Bill aims to establish a legal framework for protecting crime victims throughout the justice process. The Human Sacrifice Prevention and Prohibition Bill specifically criminalizes ritual killings, while the Missing Persons Bill addresses legal challenges in investigations of missing individuals.
