Ogun State to Strengthen Laws Against Infrastructure Vandalism

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun revealed plans to introduce a bill aimed at strengthening legal measures against the vandalism of public infrastructure, particularly electricity facilities. During a meeting with Dr.

Taiwo Afolabi, Chairman of Sifax Group, and Deolu Ijos, Managing Director of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Abiodun expressed concern over the rising incidents of vandalism, which he described as a significant setback for economic growth and service delivery in the state. He noted the destruction of public assets, including streetlights along the Abeokuta-Sagamu expressway, and warned that anyone caught engaging in such acts would face severe legal consequences.

The governor emphasized the importance of stable electricity supply as a top priority for his administration and indicated that stronger legislation would be proposed to provide a robust legal framework for prosecuting offenders. He also discussed ongoing partnerships with IBEDC to enhance power infrastructure and improve electricity access for homes and businesses in Ogun State.
