Seun Ogunsakin Claims First Grand Slam Win at US Open

Seun Ogunsakin, a 17-year-old Nigerian tennis player, recorded his first Grand Slam main-draw victory at the US Open boys’ singles on Sunday. He defeated the 15th seed Kuan-Shou Chen from Chinese Taipei with a score of 5-7, 6-3, 7-5, showcasing a strong comeback after losing the opening set.

Ogunsakin, who trains at Aurum Tennis Academy, demonstrated resilience in the decisive set to secure his place in the second round of the junior competition at Flushing Meadows. This victory marks a significant milestone in his career, being his first main-draw win at a Grand Slam junior tournament.

He qualified for the US Open by defeating Poland’s Tymon Litwic 6-3, 6-0. This appearance is Ogunsakin's third consecutive Grand Slam outing of the year, having previously competed at the French Open and Wimbledon.

He is set to face South Africa’s Connor Doig in the second round on September 8, aiming to advance further in the tournament.
